Assessment and Survey research
Office of IR coordinates a range of ongoing and ad hoc surveys of SJSU students, alumni, faculty, and staff. Below are the current major survey efforts we manage.

SJSU Campus Climate
Periodic survey of the campus community covering overall experiences, interactions with different groups on campus, and any exposure to intolerance or discrimination.

National Survey of Student Engagement
Conducted once every three years, the NSSE is a major source of information on students' academic experiences and level of satisfaction at SJSU.

Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement
A standardized survey administered to incoming first-time freshmen asking about their high school experiences and expectations for their first-year at SJSU.

San Jose City Annual Report
The City of San José Annual Report on City Services. This report provides performance data on the cost, quantity, quality, timeliness, and public opinion of City services.

Fall 2020 Faculty Survey
The Fall 2020 Faculty Survey explored faculty experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, well-being and caregiving responsibilities, and the transition to online teaching and remote working.

Student Evaluation of Teaching Program
SOTE (regular courses) and SOLATE (lab sections) are the standard course evaluation instruments completed by SJSU students at the end of each semester.

Department Chair Performance Evaluation Survey
We provide a common form that academic departments may use or customize when conducting a chair review.

Spring 2020 Student Success Survey included questions about students’ experiences after the transition to remote learning in mid-March, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Spring 2019 faculty job satisfaction survey administered by San José State University partnered with the Collaborative On Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE)
On a limited basis, office of IR also assists with department or college-level survey efforts. For more information, contact institutional-research@sjsu.edu.
Office of IR uses Qualtrics for most online surveys on campus. For self-service surveys, current SJSU students, faculty, and staff are welcome to create their own surveys on the Qualtrics system by registering for a free account.
